• Through shop-floor political action, our union involves and empowers workers to take action that will help to improve our lives. Issues like health care, protecting our lunches, breaks and overtime laws all have a dramatic effect on California workers.
• Just as we fight as a team at the bargaining table to negotiate better contracts, we also do that in the world of politics. Workers band together when we see we can have a direct impact on political issues that effect us.
• To get members involved at the workplace, we find out which issues concern the majority of workers, and then we provide simple and powerful ways to get involved.
• OPEIU Local 3 always stresses the union's role as an independent voice for working people. We support representatives who stand up for working people regardless of their political party. In election campaigns, we provide information, not voting instructions about the candidates to help you make better choices for governor, mayor, state legislative offices and other statewide offices.

How do we work on politics and elections?

• Every day, politicians make decisions that affect our jobs, our families, and our lives.
• OPEIU Local 3 is building a grassroots, member - based, issues-driven political program that holds politicians accountable at every level of government and creates power for working people.
• We work with other unions and through the California Labor Federation to endorse candidates who support labor issues and get union members out to vote on Election Day.
